How to Use Chirp's

Spaceship Door Mode (BETA)

‍“Spaceship Door” mode is a feature that automatically detects and unlocks your Favorite Entry Points on approach. Spaceship Door only works with common area entrances and does not work with the door lock on your home.

Spaceship Door relies on your phone’s Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS, not only the Chirp Access app. These settings must be enabled properly in order for Spaceship Door to work. The Chirp Access app uses your phone’s Location Services to detect your proximity to a Chirp ibeacon and uses Bluetooth to automatically unlock the Favorite Entry Point for you.

How it Works
‍A Chirp ibeacon is placed near each common area entrance to uniquely identify each Chirp Entry Point. When you walk within 20 feet of your Favorite Entry Point, the Chirp Access app will listen for a relevant signal from the ibeacon. Once you are close enough to the physical entrance and the signal is established (approximately 2 feet), the Chirp Access app will respond by automatically unlocking the door.

Chirp does not collect nor store your location data on our servers. The location data is only used to calculate on the fly.

How to Activate Spaceship Door Mode
Opt in by enabling Spaceship Door on the Favorites screen in the Chirp Access app, and make sure your phone settings and app permissions are set to the following:

For iOS 12 and below:

• Turn your phone’s Bluetooth ON
• Authorize Location Services and set permissions to "Always"

‍For iOS 13 and above:

• Turn your phone’s Bluetooth ON
• Authorize Location Services and set permissions to "Always"
• Authorize Bluetooth Permission by tapping “OK” when prompted

For Android:

• Turn your phone’s Bluetooth ON
• Authorize Location Services by tapping “Allow” when prompted
• Tap “Yes” to opt in and enable Spaceship Door mode to run foreground notification. Android 8 and above imposes limitations on what apps can do while running in the background and may kill Chirp’s ability to listen for the ibeacon signal. Foreground Notification must be actively running in order for Chirp to establish the signal from your Favorite Entry Point’s ibeacon.
  

How to Deactivate Spaceship Door Mode

For iOS:

• Change your app’s Location Services permission to “While Using the App” if you want to disable Spaceship Door but still use Chirp’s Nearby feature or “Never” to completely disable Spaceship Door and Nearby.
• If you force close the app, Spaceship Door mode will be temporarily inactive but not deactivated.

For Android:

• Tap on the blue spaceship icon on the Favorites screen
• Then tap “Yes” to Disable Spaceship Door Mode

Tips for Optimal Spaceship Door Performance

It may take several seconds for Spaceship Door mode to activate and register the beacons of your Favorite Entry Points. If Spaceship Door mode does not work immediately after you activate this feature, please wait several seconds and try again.

For iOS:

• Leave Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned ON
  
• Leave the Chirp Access app running in the background and do not force close the Chirp Access app. If you force close the app, Spaceship Door mode will be inactive.
  

‍For Android:

• Leave Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned ON
  
• Leave Foreground Notification running and do not force close the Chirp Access app.
  

Limitations with Favorite Entry Points
Apple’s framework limits the number of ibeacons that may be simultaneously monitored by a single app. This is why Chirp only allows Spaceship Door mode for your limited number of Favorite Entry Points. Please note multiple ibeacons can be used for a single Entry Point.
