More Details About

Home Access

Unlocking Your Home
If your property uses Yale smart locks for apartment access, tap on your Home in the Chirp App to unlock your door. You must have Bluetooth turned on and be within 20 feet of your lock.

Locking Your Home
To lock your door, simply hold your hand over the keypad or perform a thumb turn.

How Chirp Uses Bluetooth
Chirp listens for the short-range (~20 feet) Bluetooth signal of your lock in order to connect and unlock your door. This means your phone cannot operate your lock when you are away from your home.

Your location data is only stored on your phone within the Chirp App. Chirp does not collect nor store your data remotely, and has no way of looking at your location data. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.

What About Your Keys?
A physical key may be provided with certain locks.

Pin Codes
Use the Chirp Access app to create your own 4-8 digit pin code for your door lock.

More Details About

Guest Privileges
The Chirp App enables you to invite guests to access your Home on a temporary, recurring, or permanent access level. Fill out the required fields in the Chirp App and tap “Send Invite”. Guest Passes
Residents can easily send a key in the form of a web link to family, friends and services listed in your phone’s contacts to grant temporary access into the apartment community. Guests can scan the QR posted at entrances to gain access.

Guest Requests
Guests can use the Chirp signs posted throughout the community to request access from a known resident. To request access, scan the QR code on the Chirp sign.

Unique Pin Codes (Coming Soon)

Frequently Asked

Questions

What is August?
August is the technology inside your Yale smart lock that works with Chirp to enable you to unlock your front door using bluetooth. August is one of the original manufacturers of the smart lock and was recently acquired by Yale Residential, Inc, founded in 1868. Yale and August are both owned by Assa Abloy, Inc, the largest global lock manufacturer by both volume and sales. Chirp has partnered with Assa Abloy to deliver the best lock hardware from Yale Residential and the best bluetooth technology developed by August Home. To ensure your security, you will receive two passcodes from August to authenticate your mobile device. You will need to enter both passcodes when setting up Chirp for the first time: one sent via email and one sent via text message. Chirp’s partnership with August Home delivers the high standard of security and encryption on firmware and the ease and flexibility of mobile software.

What phone number should I use?
Make sure when setting up Chirp you use the same phone number you used on your lease.

How do I contact support?
If you are encountering issues contact your leasing center 24/7 day or night or email Chirp Support.

Does Chirp support NFC?
Yes. iPhone XS, XS MAX, and XR models allow for NFC entry. Many Android phones have this capability as well.

How is this lock secure?
Only residents named on the lease will have access.  The Yale smart lock is not connected to the internet, making it impossible to be accessed remotely and therefore extremely difficult to be hacked. The Chirp app communicates directly with your lock using Bluetooth. Chirp leverages August's Bluetooth AES 128-bit, and TLS encryption. Unlike physical keys, digital keys contained in your Chirp app cannot be copied.
